The Story
Las Ranas Estate is owned and operated by our friend, Jose Antonio Salaverria. Finca Cerro Las Ranas is located in the Apaneca Ilamatepec mountain range, one of the most prestigious regions of El Salvador for coffee cultivation. The name of the farm, Las Ranas, is derived from the natural forest reserve area that is located on the farm. In the crater of a dead volcano is a small lake that is the home to thousands of small amphibians and a small herd of wild horses. For this beautiful location on the farm, the special Reserve coffee was named. In spanish, the words "Las Ranas," translate to "the frogs" in english. So we are very proud to offer this very special coffee that means so much to Jose Antonio and to us at PT's coffee. We hope you'll enjoy it as much as we did helping in it's creation.
Las Ranas is operated by the JASAL group, a family owned mill with more than 100 years of experience. The JASAL group has a team of engineers and agronomists that constantly monitor the quality of the plants and cherries from the moment the seed is planted, to the point that the cherries are hand picked, sorted and processed. In addition to their quality control initiatives, the group also places high value on sustainability, social responsibility and environmental initiatives.
The JASAL group made hand painted signature burlap miniatures matching some of the lots we purchased this year. The La Gran Reserva lot features one of the most artistic designs we have seen.
