The Story
PT's Coffee Roasting Co. is proud to partner with Prodigy Youth Soccer Association in our offering of Flor del Sol, a single estate coffee blend from Las Ranas Estate in El Salvador. PYSA is a non-profit organization that provides Topeka area youth the opportunity to play soccer at a competitive level under positive, professional instruction. We will be donating $1, for every 8 oz. bag sold, directly to this association in support of youth soccer in our community. We hope to raise $1500 in this effort for the PYSA.
Our friend, co-worker and outstanding Barista, Jonathan Kaspar, lost his life in a tragic car accident in 2010. Flor del Sol translates to Flowers of the Sun, a tattoo that Jonathan had on his arm. We were inspired by him to create this blend, and donate to the PYSA in his honor.
Coffee producer, friend and Direct Trade partner, Jose Antonio Salaverria, generously donated 150 lbs of this coffee to help us kick-start the project and support youth soccer in the community. In addition to their charitable contribution, the Jasal group made custom Jute Bags matching the Flor Del Sol design. These burlap miniatures are enjoyable long after the coffee is brewed and hold one 8 oz bag of Flor Del Sol.
Flor del Sol just received a 90 point review from Coffee Review's article, Coffees for a Cause in October. Ken Davids wrote, "Blind Assessment: Pungent and perfumy. Orange zest, apricot, lush honeysuckle, fir, a hint of cocoa nib in aroma and cup. Roundly tart acidity; light, rather creamy-textured mouthfeel. Sweetly tart in the finish: hints of the orange and cocoa nib."
